Home of Metal

For too long Birmingham and the Black Country have failed to celebrate what is rightfully theirs, to claim the city and the region as home of heavy metal. With 2008 being the 40th anniversary of when the phrase Heavy Metal was coined it seems like a crucial time to start celebrating! And Home of Metal is continuing into 2009....

WE NEED YOU!!!

Home of Metal is a new project aimed at creating the first digital archive of music, memorabilia and fans stories, to tell the story of this unique moment of Midlands musical heritage. The first Home of Metal launched at Wolverhampton Art Gallery on Saturday 25 October, next stop was Walsall on 6th November...and now the project is hitting Birmingham

Home of Metal encourages fans of Judas Priest, Napalm Death, Godflesh, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin to come along to the next special event and share their experiences of their favourite band. We need you to bring memorabilia along with your personal stories to the gallery to be recorded - all of which will go towards the new digital archive, which aims to tell the true story of the birth place of metal. - Think antiques roadshow for Metal fans!

•Hosted by Kerrang! Radio presenter the legendary Johnny Doom with special guests

•Film screenings/memorabilia on show

•Dig out your old ticket stubs, photos, T-shirts, fanzines etc and bring them along, its a FREE EVENT all welcome.

“I’m really proud to be a Brummie and to call Birmingham my home, that’s why I’m supporting the Home of Metal events and message.  Your surroundings and experiences influence your music so it’s important for people to know where that music came from!“
