A tabloid reports claims today
A tabloid report claims that Queen fronted by America Idol singer Adam Lambert will headline the UK leg of Sonisphere this summer.
Just last week a Sonisphere spokesperson said that a leaked line-up on Twitter featuring Queen & Lambert was “completely false”, however the bastions of truth at The Daily Star have now reiterated the claims with added quotes from Lambert.
Unveiling himself as the iconic band’s new frontman, Lambert told the rag: “The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some f***ing great songs. It’s to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of.”
Lambert performed with Queen at the MTV EMAs in Belfast last November after first meeting Brian and Roger at the 2009 American Idol final.
He continued to the red top: “After the EMAs, I heard faint little slithers of a backlash from people saying: ‘You can’t replace Freddie Mercury.’ But I already knew that.
“There’s no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That’s impossible.
“The way I’m choosing to view it is that it’s a great honour and one I’m in no way going to shirk.”
Queen reformed with Free frontman Paul Rodgers – under the name Queen + Paul Rodgers – back in 2005 and they released an album together, ‘ The Cosmos Rocks’, three years later.
It’s also been rumoured that Green Day, Blink-182 and Faith No More are on the Sonisphere bill, however there’s been no official confirmation from the festival itself.
Sonisphere takes place in Knebworth from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th July 2012.
