We took the first song ever played on Kerrang Radio and wanted to see where it took us! Songs can be linked to each other through anyway or any means you’d like. Whether it be band members, producers, lyrics, covers etc etc.. Here’s our family tree so far..

METALLICA – For Whom The Bell Tells (Creed formed in Tallahassee, Florida. Tallahassee was one of the characters in the film Zombieland. This song was on the soundtrack of that film.)

ACDC - Hell's Bells (Linked to the Bee Gees who had a song called 'for whom the bell tolls' - Bee Gees were made up of brothers - there are brothers in ACDC - how about a bit of HELLS BELLS)

THE RAMONES - Pet Cemetary (Hells Bells featured on Steven Kings 1986 film, Maximum Overdrive. King is also a fan of The Ramones, who wrote the title song for Pet Cematary and appeared in the music video. King referred to the band several times in various novels and stories and The Ramones referenced King on the song "It's Not My Place (In the 9 to 5 World)", which is on 1981's Pleasant Dreams. In addition he wrote the liner notes for their tribute album We're a Happy Family.)

KISS - God Gave Rock and Roll To You (Both tracks areon the Bill and Teds Bogus Adventure Soundtack!)

IGGY POP - The Passenger (None of Kiss's members use their real full name. Neither does Iggy Pop. One of Kiss's earlier gigs was the Academy of Music show in NY in 73, where they played on same bill as Blue Oyster Cult and Iggy Pop. We've already had the Cult track, so how about Iggy's 'Passenger')

SEX PISTOLS - Pretty Vacant (Iggy pop started doing adverts so did John Lydon. In a previous life, John Lydon was leader of the sex pistols, Johnny Rotten. So sex pistols - Pretty vacant.)

DEF LEPPARD - Rock Of Ages (Sex pistols drummer Paul Cook is also in a band with Def Leps Phil Collin called Manraze)

LED ZEPPELIN - Ramble On (Def Leppard were originally gonna be 'Deaf Leopard' but decided on the spelling change. . Led Zeppelin also did the same by dropping the 'a' from Lead. So how about Led Zep Ramble on As ramblers often walk over Rocks that have been around for ages. .)

BLACK SABBATH - Sweet Leaf (Jimmy page bought aleister crowleys house in early 70s, ozzy osbourne wrote and sung mr crowley and also sung with a little known band called black sabbath ! So how about playin sweet leaf ? !)

BILLY TALENT - Fallen Leaves (Leaves. That is the only link. Just a wicked tune that needed to be played on a sunny day. The end)

KORN - Falling Away From Me (Leaves on trees, Oak is a tree, an oak has acorns...so Korn! Also, leaves fall in what Americans call the Fall, so Falling Away From Me)

THE CURE - A Forest (Korn MTV Unplugged in 2007 featured guest spots from Robert Smith and Simon Gallup from The Cure (as well as Amy Lee from Evanescence). The Forest links to the ongoing autumnal/falling leaves theme.)

PLACEBO - Without You I'm Nothing (In 2005 Robert Smith stood in as one of three guest presenters for John Peel. In November, he joined Placebo on stage at their Wembley arena gig to sing the band's hit song "Without You I'm Nothing", as well as the Cure staple "Boys Don't Cry".)

T REX - 20th Century Boy (Brian Molko had a role in the 1998 film Velvet Goldmine,[8] for which Placebo performed the T. Rex song "20th Century Boy". He played Malcolms, a singer of the fictional glam rock band, The Flaming Creatures, who resembled the early Alice Cooper band.)

DINOSAUR PILE UP - Mona Lisa (T-Rex is a dinosaur, and the video for Dinosaur Pile up - Mona Lisa has a T-Rex in it. Nice)

FALL OUT BOY - Thanks For The Memories (PATD - from their most recent album Vices and Virtues - frontman Brendon Urie - featured in the Open Happiness video for Coca Cola along with Patrick Stump frontman of Fall Out Boy - Fall Out Boy have a song called Thanks For The Memories - linking with the 4th track off the Panic At the Disco album called Memories. So... Fall Out Boy - Thanks For the Memories?)

THE WHITE STRIPES - The Hardest Button To Button (Fall Out Boy got their name from a Simpsons character, in the episode of The Simpsons where Bart gets a drum kit, he has a drum war with the White Stripes and 'The Hardest Button to Button)

THE RACONTEURS - Steady As She Goes (From THE WHITE STRIPES to THE RACONTEAURS, Steady As She Goes – link being Jack White who founded them…)

ELECTRIC SIX - Danger, High Voltage (Jack White sings on the Electric Six record)

METALLICA - For Whom The Bell Tolls (Black Grape’s album, It's Great When You're Straight... Yeah, received critical acclaim in the UK, but the group made little impact in the US. However, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich listed it as his favourite album of 1996.)

DEF LEPPARD - Animal (Steel Panther are on tour with Def Leppard in December, a panther is an animal, and Steel what Sheffield is known for and Def Leppard are from Sheffield. Phew!)

REVERAND AND THE MAKERS - Heavweight Champion Of The World (Def Leppard are from Sheffield, so are the Arctic Monkeys,their lead singer used to share a place with Jon McClure, so i suggest 'Heavyweight champion of the world' by Reverend and the Makers, and we’ll play it to remember the incredible talent of Joe Frazier.)

SEX PISTOLS - God Save The Queen (The first band Stuart Goddard (Adam Ant( joined was Bazooka Joe, in which he played bass guitar. It was at a gig in November 1975 at St. Martin's College, London, that Goddard was witness to the first-ever public performance of the Sex Pistols, who were billed as Bazooka Joe's support act. MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE - Desolation Row (Frontman Ronnie Radke used to be in Escape the Fate. They found success after winning a radio Battle of the Bands competition judged by My Chemical Romance)

GOLDFINGER - 99 Red Balloons (MCR desolation row was in the Watchmen movie. It was a cover of a track by bob Dylan. 99 red balloons was also in watchmen. Leads us nicely to 99 red balloons, by Goldfinger)

CHRIS CORNELL - You Know My Name (Gold Finger is also a Bond film, so how about a theme song. Chris Cornell You Know My Name is a good one - Rich Coventry. 'Lion-heart' Ian Webb - Since Goldfinger is the name of a Bond film, how about playing a song from another Bond film in the form of "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell.)

GOOD CHARLOTTE - Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous (You know my name was the theme to Casino Royale - Casinos and Royalty (in my mind at least) = Monte Carlo, on the french riveria, is a playground for the rich and famous so how about Good Charlotte - Lifestyles of the rich and famous?)

AVENGED SEVENFOLD - Nightmare (Avenged Sevenfold's lead singer, M. Shadows and guitarist Synyster Gates appreared on some Good Charlotte records)

SLIPKNOT - Duality (A7x toured with Stone Sour as a dual headline, Corey Taylor fronts S.Sour and Slipknot, so 'Duality' fits every option)

COREY TAYLOR - X-M@$ (Same singer obviously, and it’s December so what the hell)

PEARL JAM - Black (In July of 2011 Corey Taylor collaborated with Aaron Lewis (from Staind) while promoting Lewis' solo album, Town Line for a one night only acoustic duet show covering songs such as, Pearl Jam's "Black", Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb, and Alice In Chains' Down In A Hole, videos from this show with Taylor and Lewis can be found on YouTube.)

TEMPLE OF THE DOG - Hunger Strike (Temple of the Dog was an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - Killing In The Name (Audioslave were made up of former instrumentalists of Rage Against the Machine: Tom Morello (guitar), Tim Commerford (bass and backing vocals) and Brad Wilk (drums). And this song was Xmas No.1 2 years ago in 2009 so thought it festive to play it!!)

NINE INCH NAILS - Hurt (Tom Morello from RATM had a side project called Street Sweeper who went on tour with Nine Inch Nails and Janes’ Addiction. Morello also recorded guitars with country legend Johnny Cash during his late career with American Recordings, which was released on Unearthed, and Cash famously covered this NIN song…and one more reason is that there is a truly SHOCKING version of this song in the charts at the moment in the run up to Xmas by bloomin LEONA LEWIS. GREEN DAY - Jesus Of Suburbia (Nine Inch Nails and Green Day both played Woodstock '94 and Mike Dirnt had some teeth knocked out, that had to hurt! So maybe some Green Day? And Trent Reznor worked a lot with Marilyn Manson who covered Personal Jesus..hence the link!)

JOAN JETT - Real Wild Child (She supported Green Day last year. Simple link. Great song)

ALICE COOPER - Poison (In November 2007, Jett and the Blackhearts appeared with Motörhead and Alice Cooper in a UK arena tour, that leg constituting a "reconciliation" of sorts with Jett's former personal manager, Toby Mamis, now the co-manager of Alice Cooper. SKID ROW - 18 and Life (Sebastian Back (frontman of Skid Row) LOVED the Chinese Democracy album, and is great friends with Axl. And he plays on the new album)

BON JOVI - Lay Your Hands On Me (Jon Bon Jovi had been put in a position to seek out new and upcoming talent. He had set up a publishing company called the Underground Music Company. Bon Jovi and Dave Sabo had been friends for a very long time. They agreed that if one of them made it in the music business, he would help the other out. Bon Jovi manager Doc McGhee sought out Skid Row, and signed them. They secured a record deal with Atlantic Records in 1988, and entered the studio with Michael Wagener (of Ozzy Osbourne, White Lion and Extreme fame) to record their first album. SUBLIME - Santeria (The Orange County ska scene was a breeding ground for ska punk and more contemporary pop-influenced ska music, personified by bands such as Reel Big Fish, No Doubt and Sublime. It was here that the term "third wave ska" was to describe the new wave of ska-influenced bands which were steadily gaining notoriety)

CYPRESS HILL - Insane In The Brain (On August 31, 2009, it was announced that the reunited Sublime featuring new front-man Rome would be playing Cypress Hill's Smokeout Festival on October 24 in San Bernardino, California.)

IAN ASTBURY (The Cult) - Love Removal Machine (Ian Astbury, who resembled The Doors' Jim Morrison, became lead singer of The Doors of the 21st Century in 2002. The group featured original Doors members Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek.)

NEW FOUND GLORY - Radiosurgery (They named this song after a procedure that removes things from the brain! ARGH!..so thoughts of love etc..LOVE removal machine etc etc…)

THE BLACKOUT - Higher and Higher (Both bands are playing the upcoming Kerrang! Tour...)

LOSTPROPHETS – Rooftops (A Liberation Broadcast) (You can’t get much higher than a rooftop!, Both bands are Welsh and both have had MAJOR support from Kerrang over the years… Lostprophets have won LOADS of Kerrang Awards over the years, and The Blackout head out on the road any day now for the Kerrang! Tour 2012.)

HELMET - Unsung (Rusty cage was on the sound track to Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, which also featured Unsung by Helmet...Which is also an awesome awesome song!)

SLASH FT. FERGIE Beautiful Dangerous (U2 covered the song at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame benefit concert on October 30, 2009, with Mick Jagger sharing lead vocals with Bono and featuring The Black Eyed Peas members Fergie, singing Merry Clayton's vocal part, and G’n’R have also covered the Stones many times too.)

LYNYRD SKYNYRD - Sweet Home Alabama (Motley Crue's drummer, Tommy Lee, married Pamela Anderson, who also had a relationship with Kid Rock. Kid Rock did a song called All Summer Long which sampled Sweet Home Alabama so.... Lynyrd Skynyrds - Sweet Home Alabama)

METALLICA - Nothing Else Matters (Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote Tuesdays Gone which Metallica covered so nothing else matters by metallica)

ALICE IN CHAINS - Would (Metallica used to contain the band member Dave Mustaine, who is now in the band Megadeath. In February 1987, Megadeth opened for Alice Cooper on his Contrictor tour.. Alice is also part of the band name "Alice in Chains", so lets have some "Would" by Alice in Chains)

MAD SEASON - River Of Deceit (Mad Season was an American rock supergroup formed in Seattle, Washington in 1994 by members of three popular Seattle-based bands: Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Screaming Trees. Mad Season only released one album, Above, and is best known for the single "River of Deceit".)
